Why are translators fees expressed in several different ways?
Most professions charge by the time required to complete a specific assignment and this is the method that we use for determining our charges for revision and correction of texts which have already been written in English.
Since many clients wish to know the cost of a translation before placing their order we tend to base the quotation on the number of words or lines in a document. This is easily understood by clients but unfortunately the same charge cannot necessarily be applied to all languages. Some languages such as German use so many compound forms that a translation of German into English will result in a document containing up to 30% more words.
The most universally applicable system is to count the number of standard lines in a document; a standard line being defined as 55 typing keystrokes; with this system there is little variation between languages. We shall be happy to provide you with a quotation based on any of these methods.
